Severn Teackle Wallis collection, 1867-1894.

The collection consists of 3 scrapbooks of newspaper clippings regarding Severn Teackle Wallis. The clippings are mostly memorials and remembrances of Wallis published at the time of his death in 1894. The clippings were collected by Charles Morris Howard, a Baltimore lawyer and Johns Hopkins University alumnus. In the collection also are a few of Wallis's published essays including "Leisure, Its Moral and Political Economy," (1867).

Severn Teackle Wallis was a Baltimore lawyer, politician, and writer. He was born in Baltimore, Sept. 8, 1816 and was graduated from St. Mary's College in 1832. He completed his study of the law in 1837 and practiced successfully in Baltimore. Wallis was an active participant in the political and cultural life of the city.
